Into Flight Once More

In 2019, a bunch of old DC-3 airplanes met up in New York for the start of an insane journey across the North Atlantic. Most of them had flown in WWII, and some of the planes were actual D-Day veterans. Their crews – the D-Day Squadron – was on a mission to honor the brave young kids who flew them the first time around. They were going to fly these rickety old antiques across the treacherous North Atlantic and all the way to Normandy to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Director Adrienne Hall and DP Mecky Creus went along for the ride and shot an old school verité doc about these venerable planes and their charismatic crews. They met a lot of human D-Day veterans along the way, too. The youngest of these guys are in their late 90s. Most of them won’t make it to the 80th anniversary. It was an incredible honor to help tell their stories. This was my first feature length documentary as lead editor and I couldn’t be more proud of it. It’s now available to stream on Apple TV+.
